Blast Off! 03 April 2007 by always garaged
2. The etch prime has to go on the bare steel quick. I would blast an area and then cart the tub back into a heated garage for spraying. I used Delfleet PPG Primer Wash, it dries with a green transparent finish. The whole process was slow going. In the end to speed things up I hired a thumping great diesel driven compressor that put out a constant 150 psi. That got things moving. 3. By the end of the job I had used up 1200 kg of Blast Media. The stuff I used was a mix of Olivine sand and raw Iron. It has a sort of salt and pepper look to it. You need air and lots of it. Not surprisingly air works out cheaper than sand. |

1. The only thing that keeps your sanity through the gale and blizzard of blasting is seeing the results as you go. I found it compelling to say the least. The biggest frustration is with equipment. I ended up having to blast through a 6mm nozzle. That proved a bit too much for my 4 HP compressor. Also the 27 litre capacity of my blast tank seemed to vanish in no time.
